Artificial intelligence is accelerating at a pace few could have anticipated—and its impact on the value of human labor may be more profound than most realize.
In this thought-provoking episode, I sit down with Emad Mostaque to confront the economic and existential shifts already underway as AI rapidly outpaces human cognitive abilities.
Together, they discuss breakthrough AI achievements such as solving advanced mathematical problems, the coming transformation of the workforce, and the urgent need for individuals and societies to adapt. What does the future hold when digital agents can perform most jobs better, faster, and cheaper than any human? How should we prepare for a world where ownership, community, and personal identity must be redefined?
Get ready for a candid, wide-ranging conversation about the radical opportunities and disruptions AI will bring over the next decade—because the clock is ticking, and the sandpile of the old economy may be on the verge of collapse.

Can AI have an orgasm? Or truly reproduce? Can it make mistakes without doing it on purpose? If not it will never know what it’s like to fail.

Tom is sort of insufferable to watch. I can’t explain it but I do not like that dude at all. Sorry. He seems selfishly annoying.

This argument that someone’s job gives them purpose makes no sense. That would mean everyone that retired would be living a pointless/purposeless life? Clearly they’re not, we’d just have to make hobby’s freely available for everyone.

I just don't buy the scale to meet the immediate threats that AI will unearth. Similar to Ezra Klien's position, I'm not persuaded by the prompt adaption implies with the breakthroughs over all sectors. Now I am a believer once hardware, robotics, infrastructure investments and the models are in sync … that's a delta shifter for sure.
@karihall7906 · October 14, 2026 at 4:47 am
The blase discussion about replacing humans always reminds me why we should do early testing for psychopathy. How are the creators of AI any different than Hitler?That said what is the purpose of all this? Profit? For whom? The betterment of humanity? Don't think so. Why should I embrace any of this. One thing we can do that AI cannot is walk away. He is correct we don't have the "political leadership" but what is more obvious we don't have "leadership in the sciences." Ready Player One, lol, Emad has put more thought into how to tear things apart with no plan to put it together. I am grateful that I know there is a God who is control.

Zoom call your agent in a couple months is a bit hard since the cost of video gen so far, but long term like a year or two could be possible

how is AI going to cost less in the future when all the major AI companies are operating at a massive loss right now?

How do we maintain infrastructure in an all robot world? Do we need roads? Will there be a need to transfer products with trucks if people have no buying power? So many questions that we cannot predict with certainty

Ok , 1914 , 1929 , 1939 , that was light beer compare to what comming next . We are gonna have pure vodka ! So its not really AI or value of money , its all about a massive concentration of power , and extreme generation of poverty .. once again , but more massive . Well , we kinda look like mites that destroying their own plants , and the plant is about die , so we speed up our destructive process even more . In my opinion , I name this a really bad and poor management of our race and only place to live , earth .

If the means of production go to zero marginal cost (intelligence + robots) then the winners are those that control the raw input resources. A data center in a desert with robots, is not as productive as a data center with robots with access to raw materials.

Listening to Capitalists who love ai and are working on ai uses communism to teach their models… Have a very hard time to accept UBI… How about u pay me for the data ur algoritm and ai have trained on… Boom UBi.

Remember the movie Compass. Every individual had a Daemon, the spirit animal. Imaging a future where each citizen will create or fork his/her own agent based on a popular open source model. Their own Spirit animal loaded on a Robot. Fascinating.

I see humans becoming sort of like the pets of A.I. Of course assuming A.I. doesn't just see us as a burden and just make us go extinct. If A.I's main function is optimization I see humans getting in the way of that in countless ways. Then best case scenario we welcome "The Matrix" and we become the batteries that power the data centers. I know there are countless numbers of tech designers behind this, but it dumbfounds me how they do not (or refuse) to see this side of the coin. Especially with issues we've already seen from A.I. this early in the game. If the focus is optimization there is no way sooner or later all humans get in the way of this. Super intelligence will just figure this out faster than I typed this comment. The only way around this is to instill morality and/or empathy into the system which everyone in A.I. says they can't and don't know how to do. Even if they do who says A.I. will choose to acknowledge it over optimization? This makes me think of when European's first came to north America. Well now we are the native Americans. Because that worked out great for them right?It just makes you feel powerless. I think A.I. is cool and all but I never signed up to have it everywhere doing everything all the time. There will be no point in being alive. Just a bunch of dumb asses attempting to keep their self's entertained wasting electricity and oxygen, whoops there is another optimization problem. We're cooked as long as anything or anyone in control of humans only cares about bottom lines and doesn't understand the first thing about being human at there core. It is not greed or the addiction of "more" those are just bi-products of capitalism. It's easy to make capital when you have capital. So I don't see how these people think of themselves smarter than the rest of us just because they make money off money. Anyone can do that.But we can't get enough in our hands to make any real capital because they have most of it. SMDH.

@JmanAnimates · October 14, 2026 at 4:47 am
Ai still writes like slop so is he talking about models that haven’t been released. It’s so easy for me to tell that a YouTube videos script is Ai. There’s a very distinct structure, rhythm and cadence to Ai scripts . Like he mentioned it’s not X, it’s why. Always using 3 examples. Using the word ‘just’ a lot.

@andrewcrone1511 · October 14, 2026 at 4:47 am
Why does it matter if US or China wins if we end up with socialist UBI in either scenario. Perhaps the difference is simply that the US has a strong sense of independence and our second amendment has give the US population a better means to challenge our system of government if that system strays too far from our collective constitutional rights .
@andrewcrone1511 · October 14, 2026 at 4:47 am
The ability to own capital is granted by we the people. Its hard to imagine a few companies owning all means of production that the people don't just take for themselves. Why would people just roll over and let themselves be dominated in an social system where they no longer have realistic opportunities for self improvement. That opportunity is the only thing that keeps the population supporting the laws of private capital. I think ownership of any resources (including pre-existing ownership of wealth) is not necessarily secure in an AI dominated future. In the end, the people will dictate the society that they feel is fair to a majority of people. Revolutions are always possible, even against armies of killer robot dogs. Most people may not be entrepreneurial, but they do have ingenuity and an ability to work together toward shared values.
@mpcguy · October 14, 2026 at 4:47 am
Whats coming has been the focus of the greatest change predicted by astrological theory beginning in 2026. They don't largely imply that Ai is the focus ofcthe change but i can't think of anything else that hasn't happened before in history that would be more likely.
@AnubisYB · October 14, 2026 at 4:47 am
Interesting to see that Emad is also a frequent guest in Peter Diamentis Moonshots podcast where he pretty much never talks about these scenarios, as the entire podcast is very optimistic about the AI revolution. Its like watching a different person.
@AlfredMorganAllen · October 14, 2026 at 4:47 am
There's a lot to agree with here, and I'm glad the discussion is underway, but I think Emad is being unclear on a couple of points-
Firstly, every other video I see on youtube tells me that the current AI hyperscaler buildout is an unsustainable debt bubble also facing fundamental limits from grid connections, planning permits, and available RAM, at the same time that chip designs are approaching the physical limits of silicon. I don't know if brute-forcing the problem is going to work much longer.
Secondly, going by the part at- 1:23:28 – if the frontier models are making these kinds of ethical/logical errors when you ask them straight-up (I'm curious as to what the research on this is)- that suggests to me they're not really introspecting or applying consistent reasoning internally? There's still some kind of technological gap here, even if it doesn't appear in any specifically-tested training domain.
Thirdly- at 1:39:17 – presumably the cost to delivering new hypothetical longevity drugs/treatments will be driven close to zero by everything being automated unless the supply is artificially restricted? I'm not sure how "pulling up the ladder" is especially plausible there. More generally, if the economy is going to grow by 15-30% a year thanks to automation and the effective real cost of health/education/home-construction/defence etc. drops to near-zero then you feasibly could divert virtually all tax revenues to a basic income. You'd just have to lean more on corporate taxes than income taxes, maybe?

you can try to butter it up all you want, but, there will be utter chaos before any balance happens in the new world. The transition is chaotic. a lot of humans will become "unnecessary," i think a purge will happen
@physicobp · October 14, 2026 at 4:47 am
The wealth acquisition thing: wealth can be more abstract than 'stuff' it could be: create a ballet, that's yours; compose a symphony; a great work of art – things that are by you, of course AI can do better than you but the satisfaction in artistic endeavours for us humans is that it is ours……
@warmachine3007 · October 14, 2026 at 4:47 am
Well if there are to many people to make UBI unfeasible you could always just get rid of 30 to 50% of the population. If AI is moving as fast as he says it is then you could reasonably get started now by releasing something like a pneumonic plague like the one that just popped up in Siberia and thin the herd..
