One note about vertical scaling is that some apps/program cannot recognize the added CPU/RAM/DISK without an app restart and sometimes even require app parameter updates. This means downtime which is the ugliest word in the dictionary for a company.

I think something that could have been clarified (or could still use clarification) is the benefits of cloud networking compared to traditional networking. I wondered why they seemed so similar, but it turns out that configuring subnets in traditional networking requires hands-on manipulation of physical components, manual cabling, and on-site hardware configuration to define public-facing zones versus private, secure areas.
Cloud networking does, in fact, "not make this your problem" by letting us create those subnets through software configuration, while the cloud provider manages and maintains the underlying physical hardware.
Is this an accurate interpretation?

Good tutorial to get familiar with the basics 👍
@Sreejan-dev · November 4, 2026 at 12:00 am
Key Concepts Covered:
Scaling (0:18 – 5:25): Explains the difference between vertical scaling (beefing up a single machine) and horizontal scaling (adding multiple, smaller machines), highlighting the cost and stability benefits of the latter.
Load Balancing (5:25 – 8:25): Describes how load balancers act as a layer in front of your applications to distribute incoming traffic efficiently among healthy instances.
Autoscaling (8:25 – 10:51): Discusses automating the addition or removal of instances based on real-time traffic fluctuations to maintain performance and cost-efficiency.
Serverless (10:51 – 16:32): Explains the serverless model (like AWS Lambda), where users focus on code execution without managing underlying infrastructure, and notes how the term has evolved in modern cloud services.
Event-Driven Architecture (16:32 – 23:40): Details a decoupled communication model using services like SNS or EventBridge to send messages between independent components rather than using direct request-response chains.
Container Orchestration (23:40 – 27:11): Covers how tools like ECS or Kubernetes simplify managing containerized applications across multiple hosts, handling health checks and deployments.
Storage (27:11 – 31:41): Breaks down the three main storage types: Object storage (for unstructured data/media), Block storage (volumes/drives), and Databases (relational and NoSQL).
Availability & Durability (31:41 – 36:07): Distinguishes between Availability (keeping the application up and running across multiple data centers/zones) and Durability (ensuring data is safe from loss by maintaining redundant copies).
Infrastructure as Code (36:07 – 41:20): Explains managing infrastructure through code (CloudFormation, CDK, Terraform) instead of manual console clicks to ensure consistency and easier replication.
Cloud Networks (41:20 – 45:32): Discusses how cloud networks allow for logical isolation of resources, ensuring security and private communication between services within the cloud environment.

1. horizontal scaling has more resilience as there is no single point of failure – the secret sauce is orchestration (if a service is an orchestra and every musician is a microservice, then you need to make sure they all play to the music!).
2.autoscaling is kind of like auto-transmission, or in terms of manpower, using contractors vs. permanent employees
3. event-driven and serverless – it's mainly minimisation of idle runtime, in a sense are really not having a standing .exe files but just source code which an ephemeral instance of an "executed code" is conjured from it by an event trigger.

I don't store data on the cloud because I don't want to pay for it. Get a terabyte portable drive. Keep your pictures music everything on that. You don't need cloud access. When traveling take the portable drive with you to use on the laptop.

Thanks for this video Dev, i think the missed out topic which is crucial when working on cloud is security such as IAM (RBAC, Conditional, Geo), basics of crypto and its usages on cloud (encryption of data at rest and in transit).

Cloud computing becomes much easier when the core concepts are clear first, like storage, networking, virtualization, scalability, and service models. This related beginner video explains the basics in a simple way: https://youtu.be/0sI8tQHdKfE?si=kX0gjha7aY-_5vVh

@vinaygovardhanam · November 4, 2026 at 12:00 am
I have a question, while we do vertical and horizontal scaling. How do we know that our app is crashing due to multiple users traffic but we may need to know how many users we can accommodate for one instance if we specifically speak about horizontal and instead of seeing the dashboard that our load balancer says the traffic spike and going for scaling how we can simulate and test it but you may tell me that regression testing by multiple users but How we may know that our users are real users instead not an attacker who is trying to crash our app by putting multiple api requests as a payload or something which we can mitigate by rate limiting or such techniques and all but all I want is how we can truly understand the efficiency and optimization before we deploy our app to cloud service. Thank you for your time 😊

does cloud engineers develop apps? they do not do the same type of programming as software developers right?
