Martial Arts Training in Manila – A Continually Growing Directory with Maps

Decided to compile a list of the Martial Arts Gyms in Manila. I haven’t been to all or even most of them so I’ll add the contact numbers and website of each one. I’ll also try to add a Google Maps picture so it’s easier for you to find them :).

Feel free to get in touch with whichever gym  is closest to you if you’re interested in training.

Also This will be a continually growing list so if you know of any that aren’t here or of any new ones, then please let me know so I can add them.

And if you spot any mistakes or anything that needs to be updated I’d love a heads-up as well.

To make searching this post easier, you might want to use “Ctrl + F” and type in the gym you’re looking for or your area (if you’re looking for one close to where you live/work). This way you can find what you need quickly.

10/4/2013 – added Deftac RT

3/72014 – added Onyok, Spartacus, and Salavarria Gyms

That’s it for now.

I know the list is far from complete but I’ll be updating this as I find more gyms (and when I have some extra time).

Again, if you find a mistake please let me know so I can edit this. Also if you know of any gym/class/group that’s not here, then please let me know so I can add them.

Thanks and hope you find this useful.

Hi Malds. Why not add Arena Fitness here? Aside from our club offering Kendo, there is an Aikido group also based there. The gym management itself also offers Muay Thai/Kickboxing, and there is also a Capioera group that trains there from time to time. An eclectic selection of arts for anyone I think. 😉

    • Malds 27 February, 2013 at 6:59 pm

Oks, I’ll do that.I dunno why I missed Arena Fitness and Kendo. But I didn’t know that they had Aikido, Muay, and boxing there. I knew there was a gym and I did see the ring near the basketball place. Dunno why that didn’t register till now though. Will add Arena later. Thanks for the heads up sir Inting, tama diba? lol I’m assuming from your email na that’s who you are :).

And sorry I was never able to get back to training Kendo. I went home during the holidays last December, then I sprained my ankle in a climb and couldn’t really train in anything for over a month, then midterms came, and now it’s almost finals. Things sort of just started snowballing and I lost control of my schedule.

Maybe once things lighten up a bit ti-timing ako ulit when you open up for beegginers this year para mga baguhan din kasama ko.

Anyway, thanks for reminding me about arena.

      • pinoykendoka 28 February, 2013 at 12:02 am

No worries Malds, I could certainly understand that life gets in the way of training sometimes. 😉 Anyway if you can’t come back to IGA Kendo Club this March, then there is always the July and November classes. Good luck, and hope to see you again in training soon!

  2. owlsgaze 20 June, 2013 at 6:12 pm

Thanks for the update owlsgaze 🙂

  3. marj 21 July, 2013 at 11:41 pm

Hi! I would like to add Onyok Velasco Gym which is in makati — they offer muay thai and boxing — their muay thai group is from the former Muay thai Association of the philippines makati chapter, which was from Bagtikan(MJL Bldg).

    • Malds 23 July, 2013 at 10:51 pm

  5. SpartacusMMA_Manila 12 September, 2013 at 1:52 am

    Hi Malds!

I would also want to add Spartacus Fitness and MMA gym! We already have two branches in QC. We have one in Congressional Ave., and one in Sikatuna Village! We offer Muay Thai, Boxing, MMA, Grappling, Wrestling, FMA, TKD, & Strength and Conditioning! 🙂

    • Malds 12 September, 2013 at 8:20 am

thanks for letting me know about it. Will add the gym to the post in a couple of days :).

  6. Jay Dee 22 September, 2013 at 9:13 pm

thanks for the info mate :) you know what level there muay thai is in pinas? i was hoping to train whilst i was in makati but most of the gyms dont have much info re: muaythai. i would like to know what there training schedule is like etc. thanks again…

    • Malds 22 September, 2013 at 10:34 pm

Hey Jay Dee, re the level of training. Most of the local fighting/boxing gyms like elorde will teach muay thai but it’s a bit too “commercial” so it doesn’t have the martial art feel that it should have. This is just from personal experience tho, so it could have been that training at the branch I went to wasn’t that good. Still, they’ll have all the things you’ll need to train, and if you’re lucky and you’re able to pick a really good trainer, then you might still get a decent workout.

You might want to give Muay Thai Association of the Philippines (MAP) a try tho. I’ve never actually trained with them but considering that they’re focusing purely on Muay Thai, they should have better training there, at least compared to the other boxing/fighting gyms that also offer muay thai. They have a branch in makati, you might wanna drop by and see for yourself.

Hope you can help out for everyone’s benefit, thanks.

      • Pao 7 March, 2014 at 12:15 pm

I don’t have their contact details, though I saw this fb account but still not sure if this is legit.
They only teach boxing and fitness techniques. They do train several amateur boxers, and MMA fighters(for their striking skills).

  10. Pao 7 March, 2014 at 1:19 pm

  16. Carrie Enders 2 November, 2014 at 12:30 am

I’ve been working in your beautiful country for 3 years now, and I’m surprised you missed out on a big favourite, Empire Boxing. They’re very keen on people, I’ve also met so many expats who train here because the gym folk and trainers are all so nice! Plus they run charity drives. The American owner, Rob makes everyone feel at home. They’re quite technical but non intimidating. My brother, a student and professional boxer out of Leeds said he learned so much from his Summer leave here. I love your blog but don’t leave out the best! Cheers!

    • Malds 4 November, 2014 at 11:03 pm

Haha thanks for reminding me about them. I actually already blogged about empire a while back, it’s over here Empire boxing gym :).

I thought for sure I added it to this list already. Must have forgotten to. Thanks for reminding me. Will update this to include the gym.

I worked in the building where empire is at for a month or two so I trained there for a while. Met Rob once or twice and yeah he really takes the time to make everyone feel welcome. He came over to me and my friend on our first day to say hi and chat a bit about our form :).
