Jiu Jitsu Lessons Update

So I’ve done 4 Jiu Jitsu Classes at Deftac RT so far and I’ve learned a lot already. The place is great for beginners and the more experienced students are really friendly. Both coach Gerard and his students take the time to teach us the moves and correct us whenever we’re not doing something right.

Anyway, since this is an update post, let me break down the things I’ve learned so far.

I can now do (assuming my opponent lets me lol) your basic choke, arm bars, triangles, and kimuras. We were taught how to do the omoplata already but I can’t confidently say that I’ve learned how to do that lol. But for the other stuff, I think I’ve got the basics down.

I’m also a tiny bit better at being on the defensive when I’ve been mounted. We did drills to prevent your opponent from getting a good hold on you and that’s worked well for me.

I still tap a lot lol but at least I’m not as bad as I was on my first and second day. I was even able to get one of the students to tap bwahahaha. But he was a new student, newer than me lol and I got him to tap on his second day which is cheating pretty much hehe.

I’m also feeling really good about not having to tap after 2 minutes on my back against one of the older students. I know it’s not much lol but it’s a milestone for me.

I still get bumped off a lot when where doing drills where I have a full mount though. I suck at keeping my balance up top. I need to work on that.

So there, that’s all for this update. I just wanted to write about what’s happening.

  1. I love MMA. Have you tried Yaw-Yan?

    • Hey KT not yet. I’ve don’t know anyone who train in it so never got to try it. I’ve done boxing, muay & taekwando (both negligible amounts of training lol), and jiu jitsu since those are the more popular martial arts here. Might want to give it a shot some day tho, just to see if I’ll like it :). Also thinking of trying kravmaga an FMA at some point.
